World Day of the Sick – 11 February 2006

Following the practice of Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI has proclaimed February 11, 2006, the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, “World Day of the Sick. Here in St. Mary’s we will participate in this day at the 5:30 pm Mass with the celebration of the Sacrament of the Sick. We do this as a community as is indicated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

“The faithful should encourage the sick to call for a priest to receive this sacrament. The sick should prepare themselves to receive it with good dispositions, assisted by their pastor and the whole ecclesial community, prayers and fraternal attention”. (# 1516)
