Odds and Ends
During the summer weeks, there aren’t many Parish Meetings to announce or programs going on. So, here are just a few things that might be of interest:
PALIUM The “palium” is the strip or band of cloth, made from lamb’s wool, that goes around the neck of an Archbishop. On this feast of Sts. Peter & Paul, Pope Benedict XVI will confer the palium upon all those named archbishop since June 29, 2007. This year, our own Archbishop Thomas Rodi receives the palium.
GENERAL INTERCESSIONS At Mass, right after the Creed, we have the General Intercessions. These are petitions to God for needs of the Community. They are GENERAL, not particular. Example: “For all the deceased, especially my aunt, let us pray to the Lord.” Details are not needed since God already knows the details. Therefore, an intercession like: “For my neighbor, who is sick and who always talks bad about us behind our backs, even though we helped her/him put up their fence, etc.” This is a news cast to the Congregation. It is not a general intercession made to God. Be careful, also, of including names. Some people do not want others to know of their situation. If a person is hospitalized, details of the reason for the hospitalization are private and are not to be made public, without the person’s consent. That is civil law. Please respect their personal privacy.
