There will be a meeting on 22 May at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall for the purpose of starting to make a “Parish Calendar” for next Fall. Each Committee is asked to send no more than two (2) representatives to this meeting with dates and times of planned activities. By doing this, we hope to avoid any conflicts of two or more groups doing something in the same place at the same time.

DON’T ASK GOD TO CALL MORE PRIESTS!!!

Fr. Ernesto Urbina, C.M., 34 yrs. old, died yesterday (28 April) in Panama. “Chico”, as he was called, suffered from cancer during this past year. Last December 20, Fr. Tom Casella, C.M., 59 yrs. old, died of a stroke. When priests die, especially those who are still very active, it is jolting. When a pope dies, a new one is elected. When a bishop dies, a new one is appointed. When a priest dies, …. You see my point.

 I believe that our God is very loving, just and fair. I believe that He calls the exact number of priests that the Church needs. I believe that He calls not one too many and not one too few. I also believe that not all those called respond. And that, to me, is a big part of the problem.

When we pray for vocations to the priesthood, pray that those called will respond generously. If you notice in some young people leadeship qualities, good personal relations with others and a healthy faith life, speak to them about the possibility that God has gifted them to be priests. Take the initiative yourself! Be God’s voice!

We pray for all priests, living and deceased, who have influenced our lives. Let us set our sights on the future and do what we can to assure that the future will have a vibrant Church.

2. Pastoral Council Membership

A discussion was held regarding terms and membership on the Pastoral Council. Points of agreement were:

a. up to four (4) members are elected from the Parish at large;
b. the membership of significant parish committee should choose a representative to be a member of the Council. These Committees are: Spiritual Life & Worship; Men’s Club; Ladies Sodality; Finance Committee; Religious Formation; Spanish Ministry.
c. elected members are chosen from nominations made in April and the election is completed in May. New members start in August. A suggestion was made that perhaps new members needed some type of orientation to responsibilites. Present elected members are: Nancy Penaskovic; John Rowe; Dan Bloodworth; & Amanda Venafro. All others represent their committee.

3. Fr. Kane proposed a Retreat Day for the Pastoral Council on January 21, 2006. The time would be from 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Several minutes were spent reviewing the need for such a Retreat, the purpose of the Retreat and suggestions were given as to the topics needing to be covered. The consensus was:

a. the beginning hours would be devoted to a Spiritual Renewal
b. the last hours would be devoted to working with the Parish’s Long Range Plan as directed by the Diocesan directives.
c. dates for this planning were decided: Thursday, Dec. 1st, 7:00 p.m. — John Rowe & Fr. Kane. This would be followed on January 9th, 7:00 p.m. which is the time & date for the monthly Pastoral Council Meeting.
